Some basic
do's and don'ts:
- when assembling/disassembling
your instrument, do not grasp the mechanism to avoid damaging the
keywork, and keep the joints parallel. If joints are tight use
cork grease (only on corked joints!)
- after playing,
clean your instrument's bore with a cloth or pullthrough. It is
best to use a plastic or wooden cleaning rod, as metal rods can
scratch the bore. If using a metal rod, make sure it is completely
covered with the cloth
- if using
pad savers, do not leave them inside the instrument, as this will
do more harm than good. I find they work best if you put them inside
the instrument for up to an hour after playing, with the case open,
then remove them
- after playing,
it is always best to put your instrument safely back in its case
